Royal Thames Yacht Club

The Royal Thames Yacht Club ( ' RTYC ) is one of the oldest sailing clubs in Britain. The club house is located in Knightsbridge, London, from where you can enjoy a clear view of Hyde Park.

The RTYC was founded in 1775. Prince Henry, Duke of Cumberland and Strathearn, younger brother of King George III. , Donated a silver cup for the occasion a sailing regatta on the Thames. From this period dates the alternative name of the club, the Cumberland Fleet. The present name of the club since 1830. In 1855 the club introduced a new measurement formula for yachts, the Thames Measurement. The formula rapidly became the standard British yacht clubs. Before 1857, the members met in changing coffee houses of London, before a club house was purchased. The current clubhouse 60 Knightsbridge is located since 1923 in the possession of RTYC.
