Royce Campbell

Royce Campbell ( born June 7, 1952 in Seymour, Indiana) is an American jazz guitarist, composer and music producer.

Life

Royce Campbell's father worked in the Navy; so Royce grew up in various cities in the U.S., Asia, Europe and the Caribbean. Initially he worked as a guitarist with rock and roll; later models were Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. was after graduating high school in the early 1970s, he sought a career as a professional guitarist and worked with his uncle Carroll DeCamp, the arranger and pianist with Stan Kenton and Les Elgart and his nephew have been taught in music theory and composition. At 21, Campbell went with Marvin Gaye on tour; In 1975, he participated in three concerts of Henry Mancini in Indianapolis, brought him for tours as a guitarist in the orchestra, where he remained until Mancini's death in 1994.

After he had in 1983 recorded a first solo album, Campbell began to work in their own projects in the 1990s as a musician and producer; A Tribute to Wes Montgomery, which was also the guitarist Tal Farlow, Jimmy Raney, Herb Ellis and Cal Collis participated: 1993 Project G-5 was born. recorded in his 1994 album 6x6 played the guitarist Pat Martino, John Abercrombie, Larry Coryell, Dave Stryker and Bucky Pizzarelli. In the subsequent Project G -5: A Tribute to Joe Pass (1999), he worked with Charlie Byrd, Gene Bertoncini, Mundell Lowe and John Pisano.

Campbell, who lives in Virginia, also played during his career with Mel Tormé, Sarah Vaughan, Ray Brown, Dave Brubeck, Joe Williams, Cleo Laine, Eddie Daniels, Eddie Harris, Frank Morgan and Mose Allison.
