Royston Ricky Drenthe ( born April 8, 1987 in Rotterdam) is a Dutch footballer who also owns the Surinamese nationality.

Career

Association

Royston Drenthe was born in 1987 in Rotterdam and grew up in the west of the city. His football career began with five years in the SC Neptunus, where he was discovered by a scout Feyenoord Rotterdam. Then went through Drenthe all youth teams of Feyenoord.

Initially he played at Excelsior Rotterdam and later in the second team Feyenoord, Drenthe was awarded in November 2005, a professional contract with Ehrendivisionär. His debut in the first team of the club he gave in January 2006 against Vitesse Arnhem. By the end of the 2005/06 season in which Feyenoord won third place in the league, Drenthe played two more games.

Drenthe first full season as a professional was the 2006/ 07, in which he finished with Feyenoord seventh place of honor Division and played in the UEFA Cup. With 26 league games this season is considered to be sporty breakthrough year.

In summer 2007, Drenthe joined for 14 million euros for Spanish club Real Madrid, with whom he later the Championship of the Primera División won one year. At the Madrid club Drenthe came in the years to regular postings, but could not manage the big breakthrough. For the season 2010/11 he was finally hired for a year at Hércules CF. In the following season Drenthe joined shortly before transfer deadline on loan to Everton. In the summer of 2012, his contract ran out at Real Madrid.

Beginning in February 2013 signed a contract until the end of Drenthe in June 2016 the Russian first division club Alania Vladikavkaz, who finished at the time as Penultimate relegation zone.

National

2007 Drenthe was appointed to the Jong Oranje, the U-21 team of the Netherlands. Under coach Foppe de Haan, he won with the team the same year the U-21 Football Championship. He acted during the European Championship as a left winger, who impressed with good actions in defense, and shined with his thrusts. He was elected at these championships as the best player of the tournament.

Drenthe was part of the squad for the 2008 Summer Olympics, where he reached the quarterfinals with his team.

On 17 November 2010 Drenthe debuted in the A national team when he came on in the friendly against Turkey ten minutes before the deadline for Rafael van der Vaart.
