Róza Csillag

Pink Csillag ( Herrmann - Csillag, Roza Csillag, born October 23, 1832 in Irschau ( Albertirsa, H); † February 20, 1892 in Vienna) was a Hungarian- Austrian soprano voice of mezzo-soprano.

Life

She comes from a Jewish family and was originally called Goldstein, her father was a cantor in Irschau. She performed as a child of eight years in Raab (Győr ) as a dancer on. Then she came to the National Theatre in Budapest, where she performed in small singing roles. After five years, she went to Vienna, where they only meager got through with handicrafts, but took her by Heinrich Proch and tenor Alois Ander singing lessons. This recommended them to Berlin, where she in 1849 the role of Fides in Meyerbeer's Le prophète received, which should remain one of the best roles of her repertoire. From 1850 to 1861 she was engaged at the Court Opera in Vienna. On vacation they led guest appearances to Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Paris, London and Milan, where she was celebrated everywhere.

1852 she married the famous juggler and magician Compars Herrmann; the marriage was soon separated. The opera singer and actress Blanche Corelli comes from this marriage.

As her voice faded, she became a singing teacher at the Vienna Conservatory.
