Rožďalovice

Rožďalovice is a town of 1,556 inhabitants in the region Středočeský kraj (Czech Republic).

The village is surrounded by forests on the banks of the River Mrlina and is now a popular resort. The picturesque landscape has inspired many artists such as Bohuslav Knobloch, Antonín Majer, Vladimír Silovský, Max Švabinský, Jiří Škopka, Karel Vik. Viktor Dyk Rožďalovice dedicated one of his poems.

History

The area was already inhabited in the Stone Age. The village was first mentioned in the years 1223 to 1226 as the property of a Soběhrd. John of Luxembourg left the village in 1340 for faithful service of his knight Ješek z Rožďalovic 1340 charge to the city. Since the second half of the 15th century to 1622, the village belonged to the noble family Křinecký z Ronova, from 1622 to 1760 the Lords of Waldstein and from 1815 to 1930 the Lobkowitzern. Since 23 January 2009 Rožďalovice is a city.
