Rožmberk Castle

The Rožmberk ( German Rosenberg castle ) located in Rožmberk nad Vltavou in Okres Český Krumlov in the Czech Republic.

History

The system of Rosenberg castle consists of a Lower Castle and Upper Castle. The Upper Castle was built after 1225 by the Witigonen Witiko of Prčice and Blankenberg or his son Wok von Rosenberg, who was first mentioned in 1250 in a charter of King Wenceslas I as " Woko de Rosenberch ". Although his father Witiko of Prčice and Blankenberg is considered the founder of the branch of the family witigonischen Rosenberg, only used wok as the first derivative of the castle name predicate " von Rosenberg ". The first mentioned in records in 1262 Lower Castle was extended from 1330 to 1340 under Peter I. von Rosenberg. 1420 pledged Ulrich II of Rosenberg castle and lordship Rosenberg to the Lords of Walsee, which after 1460 was followed by the Lords of Lobkowitz. After that, they must have gotten to the Rosenbergs again, since the castle and dominion Rosenberg was administered after 1550 by Jan Zrinski, a nephew of Peter Wok von Rosenberg. January Zrinski was a son of Peter Vok sister Eva and Nikola Zrinski Šubić. During this time carried out by the architect Baldassare Maggi of rebuilding the Lower castle into a Renaissance castle. Since Peter of Swan Mountain was involved in the Bohemian uprising, the Rosenberg castle in 1619 was occupied by the Imperial Army under Field Marshal Karl Bonaventura Bucquoy. Out of gratitude to him Emperor Ferdinand in 1620 gave the castle. They remained in the possession of the Counts Buquoys up to their dispossession and expulsion in 1945.
