Roznov, NeamÈ›

Roznov is a town in Neamţ county in the west of Moldova in Romania.

Location

Roznov lies on the eastern edge of the Gosman Mountains, a part of the Eastern Carpathians. Through the city flows the Bistrita. The Piatra Neamţ county town is located about 15 km north-west.

History

Roznov was indirectly in 1419 first mentioned. The current name appears for the first time in 1576, as the place is called as belonging to the estate of the monastery Bistrita. In the second half of the 17th century it was seat of a secular rule of the noble family Ruset was. The place took on the construction of the railway line from Bacau to Piatra Neamt in 1885 an economic boom. In October 2003, Roznov was declared a city.

The main industries are agriculture, timber processing and textile industries.

Population

As of the 2002 census were registered in the city of 8,726 inhabitants, including 8,448 Romanians and Roma 272 4,867 lived in the city proper, the others in the incorporated villages.

Traffic

Roznov is on the railway line from Bacau to Piatra Neamt / Bicaz. In both directions run per day at present ( 2009) about seven commuter and two express trains. There are regular bus services to Piatra Neamt.
