Rørvig is a holiday home and seaport in North West Zealand with 1037 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). Rørvig is located on the northern part of the Isefjorden six kilometers east of Nykøbing Zealand and 40 kilometers north of Holbæk. The place is located in the Odsherred municipality and belongs to the parish Rørvig Sogn.

History

In the early 1900's was the coined by the fisheries Rørvig to a well-known vacation and excursion, initially mainly artists from Copenhagen visited the place. Later, the fine citizenry of the Danish capital followed. In the environment Rørvigs in Korshage and Skansehage, emerged first holiday cottages. From the 1950s to the 1980s, the cottage settlements were then greatly expanded, so that they are today shaped the landscape and environment Rørvigs into disrepair.

Port

The Port of Rørvig is predominantly a leisure and fishing harbor, but there is also a ferry service company Hundested - Rørvig Færgefart to Hundested seven kilometers east. Older homes of families Schiffer and farmhouses have survived in the area around the market square of the city. The Church of Rørvig ( Rørvig Kirke ) is located outside the town. South of the town is a restored windmill. At the port there is a native of the 17th century Grade II listed Lotzenzunftmeisterhof, which is now used as a hotel and restaurant. About a kilometer north of Rørvig is the geographical center of Denmark. Located at Løkkemosevej he is marked with a large stone.

In Rørvig exists with the Rørvig Bryghus a brewery.

Personalities

The Danish architect Olivarius days (1847-1905), the painter Hans Henrik Schou (1884-1994) and the Danish badminton player Kirsten Thor Dahl (1928-2007) died in Rørvig.
