R&S Records

R & S Records is a record label founded in 1984, which was one of numerous publications in the field of electronic music in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the major record labels in this area.

History

The name of the originally established in Ghent, Belgium labels is derived from the initials of the founder, the musician Renaat Vandepapeliere and his partner Sabine Maes. The label was first established as Milos Music Belgium. Under this name, however, appeared only a single artist Big Tony. Vandepapeliere wanted the label originally Ferrari Records name, but his partner convinced him of the name of R & S. From the top Italian car brand, however, it took over the logo, a rearing horse.

The first single under the imprint R & S appeared Big Tony's cover of Barry White classic Can not Get Enough (Of Your Love ).

As of the 1988 R & S then published a series of singles, some of which are today considered one of the classics of the New Beat and Techno.

The biggest chart hit was Jaydees Plastic Dreams, from the R & S has sold more than 500,000 units in the following years. During this time, discovered and promoted the label founder Renaat Vandepapeliere still many young talents like CJ Bolland, Moby, Joey Beltram or Aphex Twin, who counted later the most successful artists of the techno scene. Furthermore, appeared Classics titled retrospectives earlier productions of Model 500 (1993), Aphex Twin ( 1995) and Dave Angel ( 1996). Another flagship was the compilation series In Order To Dance, of the six parts published. From the mid -1990s, production of drum -and- bass artists such as Lemon D, Wax Doctor or Jacob's Optical Stairway published.

Subsequently, however, remained out more hits and the pioneering role that R & S fell to in previous years, was acquired by other labels. After several years in which it remained at R & S rather quiet, a fresh start was announced under the slogan " Mission 2 " in March 2006 on the website of the label.

The actual relaunch of the label followed but then only in 2009 by the musician Dan Foat and the label manager Andy Whitaker, who run the label since then from London. Since then published on R & S mainly British artists such as James Blake, Space Dimension Controller or Lone.
