Rubicon Trail

The Rubicon Trail is a historic American post and connects the Lake Tahoe with Georgetown from north to south over a length of about 40 km.

History

1887, the previously used only by trappers and natives path was officially released to the public. He was given the status of a non -maintained public road.

From 1880 to 1940, the path next to the transport of mail was also used for driving cattle. Cattle, sheep and turkeys were driven from the summer to the winter pastures and vice versa.

From the 1920s, the first vehicles began the way between Georgetown and Rubicon Springs to navigate. However, boards and ropes were needed to overcome difficult passages at the time. Vehicle wrecks testify today to the difficulties of the route.

With the advent of better roads and train this way lost its importance. In 1952, with the wider availability of jeeps, the road was first used for guided off-road tours.

Today

The Rubicon is today regarded as one of the hardest routes in the world that can be overcome with a vehicle. Many adventurers try every year with their vehicles at the track.
