Rubizhne

Rubischne (Ukrainian Рубіжне; Russian Рубежное / Rubeschnoje ) is a city of regional importance in eastern Ukraine. It is equipped with 60 416 inhabitants ( November 2012 ), the eighth largest city in the Luhansk Oblast.

Rubischne is known for its chemical and pharmaceutical plants and factories. The headquarters of the " Microkhim ", the largest Ukrainian producer of products and pharmaceuticals for cardiology is located, as well as the company " Runezhnoye Pipe Plant ", one of the largest plastic pipe systems manufacturer in the Ukraine, in the city.

History

The urban development began with a built in 1904 railway station. 1915 the first chemical factory was built in the city and in April 1930 Rubischne was declared a city. Since 1940, it has the status of an independent city. The city was occupied on 10 July 1942 by troops of the German Wehrmacht and freed on 31 January 1943 by the Red Army.

Geography

The city is located in the Donets Basin on the left bank of the Donets near the cities Sjewjerodonezk, Lysychansk and Kreminna about 85 km north- west to the Oblastzentrum Luhansk.

The length of the city is in north-south direction and 8.5 kilometers from west to east, the width is 6 km. The surface of the urban area is relatively flat and is in a range of 50 to 90 meters above sea level.

Climate

The city is located in a highly continental climate with very dry summers and snowy winters with an unstable snowpack. The average temperature of the warmest month (July) is 21 ° to 22 ° C and the coldest month (January) is -7 ° C to -8 ° C. The maximum temperature in summer reaches 39.5 ° C, the minimum temperature reached in some winters up to -34 ° C. Spring frosts occur until the middle of April and the first autumn frosts occur in the second half of September. Therefore, the duration of the frost-free period is 240 to 260 days a year. The average rainfall is up to 284 mm from April to October, with strong annual fluctuations.
