Ruby R. Levitt

Ruby R. Levitt ( born September 12, 1907 † January 18, 1992 in Encino, California ) was an American production designer.

Life

Levitt began her career in 1946. Their first films included the Abbott and Costello comedy film The Time of Their Lives, 1948, she turned to Max Ophüls Letter from an Unknown. During the 1950s, she worked several times with Jack Arnold, including the B-movie classic Tarantula. In 1959 she was first nominated for her involvement in the Rock Hudson film comedy Pillow Talk for an Oscar. In the 1960s, she also worked for television; 1961-1966 she was involved in 93 episodes of the TV series Mr. Ed, she was also responsible for the production design of the series The Addams Family 1964-1966. In 1966 she was for Robert Wise's musical The Sound of Music - My Dreams for the second time nominated for an Oscar. Further nominations she received for Robert Wise's Andromeda - Deadly dust from space, and Roman Polanski's Chinatown, the award they never received. In 1980 she retired from the film business.
