Rudi Fischer

Rudolf Fischer ( born April 19, 1912 according to other sources May 19, 1912 in Stuttgart, † December 30, 1976 in Lucerne ) was a Swiss racing driver. He was thus not affected as their German colleagues from start Banned in the postwar period.

The remarkable amateur racing driver and successful restaurant owner drove in the 1950s his own Ferraris successfully under the flag of the Ecurie Espadon.

Even during the 1950 Formula 1 season, fishermen had tried with a " SVA " racing car, a single piece, in a race, but had to start from the last row and soon to retire with technical difficulties.

In the Formula 1 season, 1951, he drove a Ferrari 212F2 private - but more than a tenth place he could not win in two starts against the superior Alfa Romeo and Ferrari Factory.

His best performances he scored on a Ferrari 500 during the 1952 Formula 1 season with the second place in the opening race in Bremgarten and third place in the Grand Prix of Germany at the Nürburgring, where it also succeeded in breaking into the phalanx of the works cars. But the winner and later world champion Alberto Ascari remained out of reach. Previously, Fischer had won the Eifel race on the same track.

In the final settlement of this year, he finished after five starts in fourth place overall, what is the best result an amateur or private driver in the drivers' world championship meant, but this was then discharged not by Formula 1 regulations. Similarly good results and also a victory achieved his compatriot Jo Siffert in 1968 on the private Rob Walker Lotus.

Costly defects ( engine damage ) in the last few races were probably the reason that Fischer gave up racing.
