Rudi Hiti Summer League

The Rudi Hiti - Summer Cup ( in Slovenian often referred to as poletna league ) is a warm-up tournament for hockey teams, which will be held annually since 1992, the end of August in Bled in Slovenia. Great deal of interest to host in 2001, attended by the Russian tradition HK Club CSKA Moscow took part and it also won the tournament. The most successful team in the tournament is the Austrian first division side EC KAC with five wins so far. Named the tournament is named after the former Slovenian hockey player Rudi Hiti, who enjoyed great success in the seventies and eighties.

The venue is the ice rink Bled (Slovene Hokejska dvorana Bled) that holds 1,736 spectators. The tournament is usually accompanied due to the at that time still very summery weather of barbecue parties and small events, which is why it is a popular season opener for fans.

Discharge 2007

At its premiere, the tournament was played with four teams. Each team played one match against each other. The winner was the French participant Diables Rouges de Briançon, who won all three games.

2008 edition

For the discharge in August 2008, the number of participants from four to six teams was expanded so that was first played in two groups of three teams. The two runners then carried out a match for third place, the group winners playing for the title. This was after a hard fought game short of the EC VSV.

Also in 2009, were six participants at the start, but instead took the EHC Linz of the Swiss second division side SC Langenthal in the tournament. It was played again in two groups. It was followed by the placement matches between the teams first, second and third -. Winner of the tournament was the HK Jesenice before the Diables Rouges de Briançon. The defending EC VSV played its only fifth.

In 2010, the tournament is played with four teams in a single group. Originally titleholder Briançon should compete again, but the club had to withdraw the commitment already made due to financial problems. As a substitute, the Hungarian Club Budapest Stars was brought on board.
