Rüdiger Oppermann

Rüdiger Oppermann (* 1954 in Bad Kreuznach ) is a German harpist and music manager.

Life

Rüdiger Oppermann grew up in the Palatinate. He received a classical education at the piano and cello, played beside electric guitar in a blues band. In 1973 he heard Alan Stivell, who motivated him to play the Celtic harp. In 1974 he had his first public appearance with a - self-made - harp. After school he studied for social workers. He then traveled 1975/1976 a year through Africa. By his own admission this time has his future fundamentally determined.

After his return to Germany he quit his job in the social sector, loosened his apartment and earned his living as a traveling entertainers and buskers. In 1979, he went to Tehran and traveled from there the Afghan region of Nuristan. About India he came to Sri Lanka.

Despite missing regular music study and self-paced playing Oppermann is considered as one of the most famous and best harp players beyond classical music. In addition to over 30 CD releases and numerous appearances he is the organizer of many celebrations and festivals in the world music scene.

Oppermann now lives with his wife and three children in Northern Alsace.
