Rüdiger von Heyking

Rüdiger von Heyking ( born January 10, 1894 in Rastenburg, † February 18, 1956 in Bad Godesberg ) was a German officer, last Lieutenant General during World War II.

Life

Rüdiger came from the end of the 15th century in the Baltic States have become family home of Heyking.

He resigned on March 22, 1914 from the Corps of Cadets Coming as a lieutenant in the Infantry Regiment " Duke of Holstein" ( Holstein ) No 85 a. With the outbreak of World War Heyking came with his regiment on the Western Front for use, where he first served as a train, then as a company commander. In September 1917, he then graduated to 30 January 1918, as the Air Force an observer course.

From September 1942 to November 1943 he was commander of the Luftwaffe Field Division 6 (later 6th Field Division (L)). As of May 1944, he was commander of the 6th Parachute Division and came in September of the same year in captivity. He spent part of the captivity at Trent Park, a specially supervised camp for senior officers. He was later handed over to the Soviet Union and the end of 1955 released from captivity.
