Rudolf Capell

Rudolf Capell ( born January 24, 1635 Hamburg, † April 24, 1684 in Hamburg ) was a German educator, historian and philologist.

Life

Born as the son of the Hamburg preacher Jodocus Capell, Rudolf visited from the University of Rostock in 1652, the University of Wittenberg and the University of Giessen, and earned his master's degree in 1656. After visiting other academies, he returned to Hamburg, where he was appointed professor of eloquence at the academic high school in February 1660. This professorship he exchanged in 1675 with the Chair of History and Greek language. Capell enjoyed his time at home and abroad a reputation as one of the learned men of his time. At the end of his life he had to struggle especially with the scheming of a hostile colleagues.
