Rudolf Edlinger

Rudolf Edlinger ( born February 20, 1940 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian politician ( SPÖ) and football official.

Career

After elementary and junior high school Rudolf Edlinger trained as a lithographer (1954-1957), this profession he practiced until 1962 from. On the second-chance education, he graduated from the trade school and then the course for advertising and marketing at the University of Economics in Vienna.

From 1969 Edlinger sat in the Vienna City Council and was then ten years the city council. Edlinger was considered by colleagues as a pragmatist with a handshake quality and distinctive social sentiments.

From 1997 to 2000 he was Minister of Finance in the government under Chancellor Viktor Klima. Then he remained until 2002 Member of the National Budget and spokesman for the Social Democrats.

Since 2001 he has been President of the Austrian Bundesliga club Rapid Vienna and president since 2003 of the Documentation Center of Austrian Resistance.

  • Executive City Councillor for Finance and Economic Affairs (1994-1997)
  • Federal Minister for Finance (1997-2000)

Awards

  • Grand Gold Medal with Ribbon for Services to the Republic of Austria (2000)
  • Honorary citizen of the City of Vienna ( 2009)
