Rudolf Gallati

Rudolf Gallati (* April 16, 1845 in Glarus, † November 3, 1904 in Ouchy ) was a Swiss lawyer and politician.

Life

Gallati Rudolf, son of the shoemaker and later lawyer Rudolf Gallati, studied law at the Universities of Zurich, Heidelberg and Leipzig. In Zurich, he joined the Corps Helvetia.

In 1866 he settled in Glarus as a lawyer down. In 1871, he was a prosecutor. In 1904 he became a judge at the Swiss Federal Court in Lausanne. In the Swiss army, he pursued a career as an officer. In 1884 he was promoted to colonel. As Colonel- he was commander of the southern front of the Gotthard. In 1884 he was co-founder of the Glarus cantonal bank, which he chaired until 1886 as president. In 1902 he founded the furniture factory Horgen- Glarus.

From 1872 to 1886 Rudolf Gallati was a member of the Triple chief administrative officer of the Canton of Glarus, 1887-1904 Glarus district administrator. In the years 1875 to 1881, and from 1899 to 1904 he was mayor of Glarus. From 1887 to 1904 he was a member of the Swiss National Council, in 1896 he was its president.

At the beginning of his political career Rudolf Gallati was a member of the democratic opposition. Later he was a liberal. From 1893 he was allocated at the federal level to the radical-democratic camp. From 1898 to 1904 he was a member of the Central Committee of the Free Democratic Party of Switzerland.

When he applied for the creation of a National Fund for a federal accident and health insurance. Concerning the relationship between church and state, he represented a radical view. In social matters he took a liberal-conservative position. Especially in military affairs, he was a proponent of centralization.

Rudolf Gallati was married to Martha doubt, a daughter of Glarus Landamman and the Council of States Esajas doubt. He died after an accident.
