The Rudolf Kalweit Stadium is a football stadium in Hanover Bult district. The stadium holds 18,000 spectators and is thus according to the HDI Arena and Eilenriedestadion the third largest football stadium in the city. The SV Arminia Hannover there carries its home games in the national league Hannover (6th Division) from. Also in the stadium plays American football division Arminia Spartans in Regionalliga Nord (3rd league).

History

The stadium at Bischofsholer dam was built in 1918 and expanded in 1924. The previously existing sports ground here had introduced in the fusion with Arminia Hannover in October 1918 the rugby club Mercury. After the Second World War severely damaged the stadium was renovated and expanded again. In 1963, the sports facility was about to be demolished, because the city wanted to expand the Hanover Bischofsholer dam. But the football club refused to sell the plant and had for a Hintertorseite sacrifice to the road project. In 1976 the old grandstand was demolished. The "new" roof dates from the "Stadion Rote Erde " in Dortmund.

Today

In early 2004 the stadium on Bischofsholer dam in Rudolf Kalweit Stadium was renamed. Kalweit, an Hanoverian restaurateur, who died in 2002 at the age of 96 years, Arminia was a member since 1925 and had the club left a million inheritance. The stadium can be reached with the line 6 of the Hanover Stadtbahn ( station Bult / Children's Hospital ).

At the Rudolf - Kalweit Stadium the charity matches of Per Mertesacker - Allstars against celebrities selections take place. The proceeds go to the charitable Per Mertesacker Foundation.
