Rudolf Kelber

Rudolf Kelber ( * 1948 in Traunstein, Upper Bavaria ) is a German organist, harpsichordist, conductor and church musician.

Career

During high school he attended Rudolf Kelber the Conservatory in Nuremberg and received lessons in piano, organ, cello and music theory. From 1967 to 1974 he studied at the Munich Academy of Music in the subjects of " Church Music " (A- Exam: 1971 ), " Kapellmeister " and "Master Class Organ". Teachers were, inter alia, Karl Richter and Franz Lehrndorfer (organ), Mary - land Hindemith and Erik Then-Bergh (piano ) and January Koetsier and Kurt Eichhorn (conducting).

After the study was Rudolf Kelber as theater conductor in Gelsenkirchen (1974-1976) and Heidelberg (1976-1982) worked. In parallel, he studied chamber music and historical performance practice (courses with Alan Curtis, Nicolaus Harnoncourt and Gustav Leonhardt ).

1982 Rudolf Kelber was appointed successor to Heinz Wunderlich as cantor and organist at the Church of St. Jacobi in Hamburg and there appointed church music director in 1993.

Kelber initiated the fundamental restoration of the Arp Schnitger organ of the Church of St. Jacobi, which was completed in 1993. 2008, the second organ of St. Jacobi ( Kemper 1960/1968 ) was again placed in a position at his instigation.

Organist

The highlight of the concert activity as an organist was the three performances of the complete organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach in the years 1985, 1994 and 2000.

Kelber appeared as organ soloist in the United States, Japan, Israel and almost all European countries with a wide repertoire: In addition to the prescribed by the historical organ Old Masters he plays eg Liszt, Reger and Messiaen as well as arrangements of symphonies or parts of operas, tango and blues. He has repeatedly accompanied silent films improvising.

Conductor

Rudolf Kelber has conducted alongside the great passions, oratorios and requiems, many symphonic works from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern.

Under his baton originated in Heidelberg and Hamburg staged performances of operas and oratorios by Cavalieri, Monteverdi, Stradella, Purcell, Handel, Gluck and Mozart.

In 2005, the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar by Andrew Lloyd Webber was produced in St.Jacobi.

For the time - Foundation has Kelber 2005-2009 five Baroque operas Forum conducts from the repertoire of the Hamburg Goose Market Opera in concert performances at the Bucerius Kunst.

In 1972 Kelber the Richard Strauss Prize from the city of Munich.

Teaching

Rudolf Kelber teaches since 2003 at the Academy of Arts Bremen organ.
