Rudolf Louis

Rudolf Louis ( born January 30, 1870 in Schwetzingen, † November 15, 1914 in Munich) was a German musician, writer and music critic.

Life

Louis studied philosophy and musicology in Geneva and then in Vienna, where he also phil with a dissertation on the " contradiction in Music" Dr.. doctorate. Then he took lessons there in composition with Friedrich Klose and later in conducting with Felix Mottl in Karlsruhe. This was followed by Kapellmeister activities in Landshut and Lübeck. Since 1897 he lived in Munich and worked as a music writer and music critic from 1900 as the Munich Latest News. His compositions were unable to succeed in the music scene. By co-authored with Louis Thuille harmony, which became the standard work and several editions experienced, he achieved fame in the music world.
