Rudolf Prikryl

Rudolf Prikryl ( born March 21, 1896 in Vienna, † June 13, 1965 ibid ) was from 13 - 16th April 1945 provisionally inserted mayor of Vienna. The Viennese history knows him as the so-called three -day mayor.

Life

Prikryl grew up in Vienna Alsergrund and learned after several aborted teachings of the profession of installer. In World War I he served as a soldier and married for the first time, however, was soon divorced. In the 1930s, he left his now second wife and their two children and went to France. In 1938 he traveled to Spain. There he fought together with the International Brigades against Franco's regime. He was injured. Over time, after that there is no reliable data to its whereabouts.

When in 1945 in Vienna, the Second World War came to an end, he was allegedly accidentally by a Soviet officer who had fought with him in Spain, recognized and summarily appointed mayor of Vienna. The exact reasons why and how Prikryl came to this office, but are not known to this day. The Communist Party recognized Prikryl never as communists.

He had to assume no real political, but merely bureaucratic tasks. Above all, he was busy to issue permits of various kinds. On 17 April, he was succeeded by Theodor Körner as mayor.

Prikryl remarried and built on a plumbing firm, however, perished. He died penniless and was in an honorary grave dedicated (Department E16, number 332 ) of the City of Vienna buried in Urnenhain the fire hall Simmering.
