Rudolf Wessely

Rudolf Wessely ( born January 19, 1925 in Vienna, Austria ) is an Austrian actor.

Life and work

Wessely studied after high school and military service 1945/46, acting at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna. He received first engagements from 1946 to 1948 at the Vienna Art Theatre (also known as dramaturg ) and from 1948 to 1950 at the Vienna Theater Island. 1950 to 1958 he was an actor and director at the Deutsches Theater Berlin, also a teacher at the State Drama School.

1959 to 1960 he was at the Schauspielhaus Dusseldorf worked, from 1960 to 1962 at the Municipal Theater of Wuppertal. From 1962 to 1965 he served as Director of the Atelier Theatre in Bern. From 1965 to 1967 he was employed as an actor at the Bavarian State Theatre. From 1967 to 1970 he was Director of the Chamber Games Dusseldorf. 1970/71 followed by an engagement at the Schauspielhaus Zurich.

1972 to 1987 he was a member of the Vienna Burgtheater, where he also worked as a director. He belonged to the renowned castle actors and guested in addition to this commitment, 1976-1987 also at the Munich Chamber games. From 1987 to 2001 he was a member of the Munich Studio Theater under director Dieter Dorn, with him, he moved in 2001 to the Bavarian State Theatre and there was one member of the ensemble until the summer of 2011.

He was honored in 1997 as the first actor with the ORF Radio Drama Award ( Actor of the Year ), since 2000 he is a member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts.
