Rudow (Berlin U-Bahn)

The underground station Rudow is a terminal station of the Berlin U -Bahn line U7 in the district of Rudow. It is located under the Neuköllnerstrasse and forms a starting point for numerous regional bus services. The station was opened on 1 July 1972.

History

Construction of the complex " Britz Buckow - Rudow " (BBR ), later called " Gropius City ," began in November 1962, which was designed by the architectural firm in charge The Architects Collaborative (TAC ) under the direction of Walter Gropius. The large residential area should be generally accessible by the subway, which should be extended for Britz ( Britz-Süd underground station ) from.

Construction work on the new section of line 7 with the four stations Johannisthaler Chaussee, Lipschitzallee, Wutzkyallee and Zwickau dam began in 1965 and were consistently agreed with the settlement work, thus forming a closed building could be erected. On January 2, 1970, the stretch Britz-Süd went - Zwickau dam in operation. Thus, much of the city was now Gropius provision of public transport. Furthermore, the construction work for the building of settlements found further south instead of the former village Rudow. Also, there arose numerous residential blocks, which also needed a transport infrastructure.

The construction work for the provisional terminus Rudow were held until 1971. The architect Rainer G. Rümmler designed a station with center platform, the rear track walls are decorated with red asbestos cement sheets, which supports silver aluminum plates. Rümmler This concurred with the unit type of the former stations, stations are similar, for example, the stations Eisenacherstraße and Bayerischer Platz. One of the outputs of the station which leads to the south, due to the low depth does not have a mezzanine, only a vestibule leads to the two outputs. Behind the station dropped the BVG build a four-track reversing facility.

On 1 July 1972, the BVG took the 1.1 km long section of Zwickau dam - Rudow in operation. So since that date represents the end point of the subway line 7 of Rudow station dar.

Since then, things did not change much at the underground station Rudow, apart from the various haul destinations. Since 1978 it has been possible to take the subway to City Hall Charlottenburg at the Richard -Wagner-Platz, in 1980 followed by the extension until Rohrdamm and since 1984 the underground station Rathaus Spandau is the western terminus of the U7.

In May 1993, the U -Bahn station Rudow received as a major transportation hub for the residential development and the other bus an elevator which enables barrier-free access to the platform.

With the problem that some of Berlin's metro stations have only one exit, the SNB is not employed for a long time. Only since a fire at the subway station German Opera in 2000, at which numerous passengers only an existing output saved because of the tunnel, also moved this issue to the attention of the BVG. Then they decided to own resources and by promoting the State of Berlin many stations with a further access equip. The last stations were loud plans BVG U -Bahn station Rudow and Constance Street a second output. The late retrofitting takes place because of the very complex situation at the railway station, also several times financial issues played a role. Construction of the second output at Rudow station began in 2006; it was completed on 19 June 2008.

Future

Originally a renovation of the station was planned for 2013. So to be built additional underground outputs in connection with the opening of Berlin Brandenburg Airport and equipped with escalators. To the new outputs new bus stops will be created and record the then dense clock to the airport trains running express buses and local bus lines today.

The underground station Rudow should not remain a long-term terminus. Already in the 1970s, the Berlin Senate had the route to the airport Schönefeld keep free on Berlin territory, so an extension of three to four intermediate stations is possible. Although this new line ( in addition to the extension of the U2 to Pankow Church and U5 to Central Station ) is one of the urgent routes, the Senate Department for Urban Development involved the metro station is not in the plans for the construction of the airport Berlin Brandenburg.

Connection

The metro station is the south-eastern end of the line U7 and provides connections to various bus lines by BVG, the RVS.
