Rufescent Screech Owl
The Salvin Screech-Owl ( Megascops ingens ) is a species of the family of authentics owls. It comes in two subspecies exclusively in South America.
Appearance
With a body size of about 25 to 28 centimeters, the Salvin Screech a great article is within its genus, the spring ears are relatively small and yellow-brown. The body top is reddish brown to dark brown with a darker mottling. The face veil is ocher to pale brown. A striking, dark boundary of the face veil, as they are often found in other owl species, absent in the Salvin Screech. The legs are feathered to the toes.
Possible confusion arise, for instance with the Columbia Screech, similar to the Salvin - owl in size. In this screech owl, however, the lower part of the legs is not feathered. Also, their eyes are dark brown. The Cinnamon Screech Owl resembles the Salvin Screech in appearance but is smaller by 15 percent. The cloud forest Screech is marked conspicuously on the underside and the White-throated Screech lacking ear tufts.
Distribution and habitat
The distribution areas of the Salvin Screech are the eastern slopes of the Andes from Venezuela to Ecuador, Peru, and northern Bolivia. The Salvin Screech Owl is a state bird. They settled moist forests with large Epiphytenreichtum. The altitudinal distribution ranges from 1,200 meters to 2,500 meters above sea level.
Way of life
The Salvin Screech Owl is strictly nocturnal. You shall sit between epiphytes on thick branches and often sits near the tree trunk. The food consists of insects and spiders and small vertebrates. You probably breeds in tree holes. Their reproductive biology is otherwise largely unexplored.
System
Your Relationship to the other screech owls species is largely unexplored. Probably but it is closely related to the Columbia Screech, the cloud forest Screech Owl and the Cinnamon Screech Owl.
