History

At the beginning of the 14th century the monastery had acquired some wealth, but impoverished until the beginning of the 15th century. The penultimate Abbot, Rowland Blyton, was founded in 1533 Abbot of Rievaulx. The monastery was dissolved in 1536, after it had been rated as a smaller monastery. The last abbot, Thomas Doncaster, received a severance payment of 25 pounds. The monastery was later transferred to the Talbot family. 1626 the house was sold to Sir George Savile. Later English Heritage bought the estate, while the park from the Nottingham County Council is run.
