Rufus of Thebes

Rufus ( Ρούφος; " Rufus " means " red" or " the redhead " (Latin )) ( † end of the 1st century in Rome) was a figure of the New Testament. In the Catholic Church he is a saint.

Life

According to the reports of the Acts of the Apostles as well as the letters of Paul, he accompanied Paul on his missionary journeys, in Romans (Romans 16:13 ) send apostle Paul himself and his mother greetings. Maybe he is the son of Simon of Cyrene ( the Gospel of Mark 15, 21). Mark the Evangelist in the description of the Cross makes his Roman readers pointed out that Simon has two sons named Alexander and Rufus. Rufus is the patron of Rome.
