Rugeley

Rugeley is located on the northern edge of Cannock Chase relatively centrally located between the towns of Stafford, Cannock, Lichfield and Uttoxeter. According to a census, the city had in the year 2001 22.742 inhabitants (including the Brereton and Wards Etchinghill ).

The city was a center of coal mining until 1991, when the Lea Hall pit was closed. The now disused power station Rugeley A got its fuel via conveyors directly from the adjacent coal mine. This was the first of its kind in the UK.

The coal-fired power plant Rugeley B dominates the skyline today. A flue gas desulfurization system is emerging, whereby Rugeley is able to comply with environmental laws and continue to produce electricity.
