Rui Ãguas (footballer)
José Rui Lopes Águas ( born April 28, 1960 in Lisbon ) is a former Portuguese football player and coach.
Career
Association
Águas played at the beginning at the local clubs Sesimbra and Atlético CP. However, his professional career started in 1983 when he signed with the Portuguese first division Portimonense SC.
In 1985 Águas to Benfica, where he played for three years. In the first year he won the Portuguese Super Cup with the club. In the next season he won the Portuguese Cup with Benfica and reached the Super Cup final, which went but after return match (1:1, 2:4 ) lost. In the 1986/87 season Águas won the Supercup and also the double of league and national cup again. In his last year at Benfica he reached the UEFA Champions League final, which they lost against PSV Eindhoven on penalties.
After two years at FC Porto, where he also reached the final in 1988, the Supercup in 1990 and won the championship, he moved again for four years back to Benfica. There he was again in the years 1991 and 1994 the championship in 1991 and 1993, the Super Cup and 1993 to win the national cup.
With 34 years Águas moved in 1994 to CF Estrela Amadora before surprising the Italian club AC Reggiana ended his career, which was his only foreign club of his career.
National
Águas expired on April 3, 1985 in a friendly against Italy for the first time for the Portuguese national football team on. Overall, he ran 31 times for Portugal, scoring 10 hits.
Coach
In the 1999/2000 season was Águas coach of Vitória Setúbal, with which he won six games, lost nine and drawn three times played. This meant that the club descent into second-rate Liga de Honra.
