Rui Pereira

Rui Carlos Pereira ( born March 24, 1956 in Duas Igrejas, Miranda do Douro, Portugal), Rui Pereira, usually, is a Portuguese politician of the Socialist Party and led, among others, already the Portuguese domestic intelligence service and was a member of the Constitutional Court. Since 2007, Pereira stands in front of the Ministry of Interior as the successor of António Costa.

Life

Rui Carlos Pereira was born on March 24, 1956 in the small, northern Portuguese municipality in the district of Duas Igrejas Miranda. He received his education in Chaves in the neighboring district of Vila Real, his studies of law and law he graduated with a Master's at the Law Faculty of the University of Lisbon from. Between 1981 and 1997 he taught at the same institution criminal and procedural law.

Between 1983 and 1990, Pereira worked primarily as a lawyer, including case the Arbitration Court of the teachers' union in the Greater Lisbon. He then advised the Portuguese Constitutional Court as assessor until 1994. Starting in 1995, he supported the Guterres government primarily in numerous reforms of criminal law, procedural law and the highway code.

Between 1997 and 2000, he led the Portuguese domestic intelligence Serviço de Informações de security scheme (SIS). In addition, Rui Pereira was one of the founders of the " observation service for organized crime and terrorism ", Portuguese Observatório de Segurança Criminalidade organizada e Terrorismo which he presided as President at the same time between 2003 and 2007. From 2000 to 2002 he has worked as State Secretary in the Ministry of Interior of Portugal, where he was responsible for the PSP, GNR, the road Road Patrol and the state election commissions. Between 2005 and 2007, Pereira was once again working for a commission to criminal law amendment until he was elected on April 4, 2007, one of the 13 Constitutional Court judges by the Portuguese Parliament. In between there was also speculation for an election to Attorney General, which was not confirmed, however, by the choice of Pinto Monteiro.

Having known the Socialist Party was the then Interior Minister António Costa as a candidate for the early elections to nominate Lisbon, suggested Prime Minister José Sócrates Pereira ago as his successor. After Rui Pereira first office as constitutional judges resigned, which he therefore exerted only a month, he was sworn in on 17 May 2007 by President Cavaco Silva.

In his time as a lecturer at the University of Lisbon, he published numerous articles and books on criminal law and litigation.

Rui Pereira is married and has one daughter.
