Castle ruins Klöch

The Klöch Castle is a ruined hilltop castle on a steep hill above Kloch, a municipality in the southeast of Austria in Styria on the border with Slovenia. Since 1997, the ruins of the community for events such as castle games, etc. used. At the same time an observation platform has been established.

History

The then important border fortress was probably built in the first half of the 14th century by Otto the Wolf Auer. Still inhabited in the 17th century, it was abandoned in the 18th century and left to decay.

The building

From the castle, the 2.50 m thick, four -story curtain wall are obtained with the powerful 8 × 8 m residential tower with an internal spiral staircase. The residential tower observation deck was installed ( architect Walter Jartschitsch and Herwig Moosbrugger ).
