Ruling pen

Drawing instruments refers to a collection of drawing tools for technical drawings. These drawings were also called crack. In order to achieve a high precision drawing very thin lines were required. These were taken off with the razor-sharp or needle-sharp character device scratched (cracked) and then if necessary with ink.

For drawing instruments usually include various circles for the removal of circles and ellipses, and the drawing pen, also called drawing pen, for drawing out the drawing with the finest ink stroke. Scale, ruler, triangles, a chisel-shaped beveled hard pencil and copy the needle to transfer the dimensioned points and lines on the drawing complete the tear stuff.

Application

With the chisel-shaped pencil a baseline is torn for further construction. The hard pencil leaves a barely visible line, but intersects the line very finely in the paper. With the scale and the needle now copy the first measurements are plotted on this line. Here you can sense if the needle is correctly placed in the incised line. With the help of two triangle rulers perpendicular can now be drawn to the baseline. Here you can feel when the pencil hits the ablated with the copy needle base point and thus the line is exact in degree. In this way, large-sized cracks with an accuracy of 10 mm can be performed better than 3 /.

The copy nobility was also used to copy drawings: The intersections of lines were transferred from the original on an underlying copy by piercing. Thereafter, the lines between the points have been extracted with the pulling spring.

In the case of cartographers bow compass was primarily used for the identification of survey points by small circles with 1 mm diameter.

Drawing pen and drawing pen inserts for circles have been displaced in the 70s by introducing ink pens.

Today, technical drawings on the computer to be created. The tear stuff has thus in this area except for the processing of very old drawings more irrelevant.

In modern calligraphy, however, the drawing pen is a writing instrument again their use. Well-known calligraphers, such as Friedrich Poppl and Gottfried Pott used this spring for their works. The latter was responsible for the dissemination of the drawing pen in the U.S. and designed the Ruling Script, a written with the drawing pen writing. Depending on the attitude of the drawing pen stroke width varies greatly, the bar is similar to a brush. As a modification of the tensile spring Faltfeder was developed for calligraphy.
