Rumeli ( " Ponderosa fortress "; Ottoman بوغاز کسن Boğaz - kesen, " cutter of the strait, cutthroat " ) is an Ottoman fortress on the European side of the Bosphorus in Istanbul's Sarıyer against the Anadolu Hisarı, which houses a museum. Every summer there are concerts by famous Turkish musician.

Sultan Mehmed II ordered the facility in 1452 as part of the preparations for the siege of Constantinople, nine months before the conquest, at the narrowest point of the Bosphorus, build. The strait is only 700 meters wide at this point. In just four months, built 3000 Ottoman fortress.

After the storming of Constantinople, the fortress served as a prison. The castle, which extends to the Bosphorus, has a length of 250 m and 125 m wide. By 1830 the three great towers, which bear the names of three viziers, Saruca Pasha, Halil Pasha and Pasha Zağanos were still provided with leaden pointed roofs. Two round towers standing on the crest of the hill, a corner tower stands on the Straits. At the eastern sea gate there is an artillery bailey.

In 1953, the Ponderosa fortress, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the capture of Constantinople, restored. Since then, the castle serves as a museum.
