Rummu

Rummu ( German: Rumm ) is a village ( alevik ) in the municipality Vasalemma in Estonian Harju County. It has 3532 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2000).

Prison Murru

In Rummu is currently one of the five prisons in Estonia, the infamous vangla Murru. Sitting in him a 1,600 offenders, including some sentenced to life imprisonment. The oldest part of the prison was built in 1949 by the Soviet occupation authorities. The prison is now run by the public joint stock company AS Eesti Vanglatööstus.

Economy

In addition Rummu is known for the mining of limestone and gravel plant.
