Rune Jansson

Rune Jansson (* May 29, 1932 in Skinnskatteberg ) is a former Swedish wrestler.

Career

Rune Jansson began as a teenager in his hometown Skinnskatteberg with the rings. He soon became one of the elite wrestlers in the Swedish Greek - Roman style. He switched to the higher category club IS Örgryte Gothenburg, where he found good coaches and training facilities. In 1956 he became the first Swedish champion and beat tournaments in Sweden twice and the multiple world champion in the heavyweight Bertil Antonsson, although he only weighed about 90 kg. 1957 Rune Jansson moved to Uddevalla Uddevalla and struggled now for IL.

Even at international championships he wrestled very successful and won at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne a bronze medal. He won it even on the later Olympic champion Giwi Kartosia from the USSR, but because of a defeat against the Bulgarians Dobrew he had to be content with the bronze medal.

Also at the World Cup 1958 in Budapest, he fought very well and wrestled and Others against the eventual champions Rostom Abaschidze from the USSR undecided.

At the World Cup 1962 in Toledo / USA, he finished 4th. Abaschidze and the Bulgarian Boyan Radev were better this time than he did.
