Runeberg torte

The Runeberg tarts (Finnish: Runebergintorttu; Swedish: Runebergstårta ) is a small cake with almonds from Finland.

The writer Runeberg should have eaten this tart during his stay in Porvoo every day. In Finland, the birthday of Johan Ludvig Runeberg, the Runeberg - day ( Runebergin päivä ) is celebrated on 5 February. On this day the Runeberg tarts are available in all of Finland and are eaten in memory of the writer. In the Porvoo Runeberg tarts can be purchased throughout the year in every bakery.

The wife of Johan Ludvig Runeberg, Frederika Runeberg, invented the cake. To prepare chopped almonds, flour, crumbs of gingerbread and sourdough bread, egg and other ingredients are mixed and baked. The finished cakes are garnished with frosting and raspberry jam.
