Rupert Sheldrake

Rupert Sheldrake ( born June 28, 1942 in Newark-on -Trent, Nottinghamshire ) is a British author and biologist. In 1981 he drew up a hypothesis exist after the so-called morphic fields that should influence the development of structures. His hypotheses are largely ignored in the conventional sciences and seriously discussed only by a minority. From 2005 to 2010 he led a psychically -oriented research project, which is funded from a managed from Cambridge University Foundation.

Career

Sheldrake studied biology and biochemistry at Cambridge, and later at Harvard University philosophy. At the University of Cambridge Tim Hunt was his close fellow student; in 1967 he received his doctorate in biochemistry, taught at the local Clare College and was there until 1973, Director of Research of Biochemistry and Cell Biology. There, and in the Royal Society, he was concerned with the holistic tradition in biology, conducted research on the development of plants and the aging of cells and formulated the theory of what he called morphic fields, its based on the hypothesis of a memory of nature.

Time in India

In Hyderabad in southern India, he addressed about six years with the physiology of tropical vegetables. From 1974 to 1978 he researched this, the physiology of tropical legumes as a senior plant physiologist at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi- Arid Tropics ( ICRISAT ). By 1985 he was working for this institution as consultants.

His contact with Indian Philosophy and Transcendental Meditation led him to Father Bede Griffiths, an English Benedictine monk who lived in a small Christian ashram in southern India, where the Christian to connect with the Eastern tradition was looking for. Early 80s lived Sheldrake for one and a half years in his ashram, and wrote in 1981 his first book, A New Science of Life ( German: The creative universe ), which he dedicated to Griffiths. In this report Sheldrake on the hypothesis of formative causation and postulated that nature has an intrinsic to memory.

Morphogenetic fields

Sheldrake's A New Science of Life ( 1981) contains his hypothesis of the shaping causation. The hypothesis postulates the existence of so-called morphogenetic fields that are intended to influence the shape formation in nature. Since then, the hypothesis has undergone several expansions. For example, the morphogenetic fields should cover not only forms, but on the laws of nature itself, which thus become " habits of nature." This Sheldrake draws on a coined in the 1920s term from developmental biology and gives it a new meaning. With the morphogenetic fields discussed then Sheldrake's hypotheses have tried to include the basic theme of the shaping nothing in common.

Sheldrake's hypothesis was ignored in the scientific community after initial interest substantially and is now regarded by opponents as pseudoscientific. Some renowned quantum physicists, including Bohm and Hans -Peter Dürr have, however, calls for a serious investigation of the hypothesis. Even in popular science area, particularly in the area of the New Age movement, she continues to experience strong interest. For example, Bert Hellinger and Jan Udo Holey rely on Sheldrake's theories.

Perrott - Warrick project of Trinity College, Cambridge

From 2005 to 2010 was Director of the Perrott - Warrick Sheldrake project, which is funded from a Trinity College in Cambridge -down benefit the Foundation. The project examined unexplained abilities of people and animals.
