Ruprecht Polenz

Ruprecht Polenz ( born May 26, 1946 in Denkwitz ) is a German politician ( CDU).

He was from 2005 to 2013 Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Bundestag from April to November 2000 the Secretary-General of the CDU.

Life and career

After graduation in 1966 Polenz made ​​first his military service as a reserve officer candidates at the Signal Battalion 4 in Regensburg ( last rank: Lieutenant dR ) from and then graduated from in 1968 to study law at the University of Münster, which he finished in 1973 with the first legal state exam. Party

During his studies, Polenz committed in 1968 in the ring Christian Democratic student whose country he was chairman in North Rhine -Westphalia in 1973. From 1974 to 1980 he was a member of the national board of the Junge Union in North Rhine -Westphalia. From 1995 to 2003 he was Chairman of the CDU district association Münster.

From 10 April to 20 November 2000, he was among the party leader Angela Merkel Secretary-General of the CDU. For the CDU, he is also a member of the ZDF Television Council, which he chaired since 2002.

Since January 18, 2014 Polenz is the honorary chairman of the CDU Münster.

Member of Parliament

From 1975 to 1994 Polenz was a member of the Council of the City of Münster. From 1994 to 2013 he was a member of the German Bundestag and from 2005 to 2013 Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee. He is also the first chairman of the THW association Münster eV and a member of the advisory board of Atlantic Initiative.

Political positions

Polenz advertises for EU membership of Turkey, provided that they meet the EU accession criteria. In September 2011, Polenz called for the observation of the Islamophobic blogs Politically Incorrect by the Protection of the Constitution.
