Rural Party (Iceland)

The Landsbyggðarflokkurinn ( German: provincial party, party letter M ) is a small party in Iceland.

History

The party was founded on 23 February 2013. On initial start of the parliamentary elections of 2013, the party won about 0.2 percent of the vote and was not given a seat in the national parliament Althingi.

Program

In its program, the party depends, inter alia for the following:

  • Opportunities for liberalization of agriculture are to be tested
  • Local autonomy is to be increased
  • Environmentally friendly fisheries should be promoted
  • More direct democracy: major policy decisions should generally be decided in a referendum
