Band History

Albums

Rush's music style has changed a lot over time. The albums before Permanent Waves (1980 ) are a mixture of hard rock and progressive rock. The lyrics of this period were influenced by science fiction and partly philosophical influences from Ayn Rand, as will be seen when the 1976 album 2112 and the 1978 album Hemispheres.

Permanent Waves With the biggest changes began: Although the music still based on hard rock, the trio built increasingly keyboard sounds a. The songs came shorter, but also came to the point faster. Although Rush was songwriting, music-and text, now a bit more conventional and therefore accessible from, but the style of the trio remained progressive, albeit with a dose of alternative rock provided. Especially the song Spirit of Radio, named after the pioneering local radio station CFNY in Toronto, was a big hit in the alternative scene. Another favorite of the American "Classic Rock" radio stations of the time, Tom Sawyer from the 1981 album Moving Pictures. Some of their most complex songs and some classics such as Subdivisions, Distant Early Warning and Force Ten are from the period between 1982 and 1987. However, the band felt even the mechanization of the sound especially when playing live an excellent lyricist. On the following albums completed Rush therefore a slow shift away from the synth -heavy sound of the 80s, without neglecting the songwriting. With Roll The Bones In 1991, the band towards a very successful and by critics and fans enthusiastically recorded album that contains with Dreamline, Bravado, and the title track three titles that evolved to live classics. Appeared in 1993 counterparts. This album is very hard rock - oriented.

After the 1996 album Test For Echo, the band put on a six -year hiatus, which was triggered by personal tragedies in Peart's life. Peart's daughter Selena died in an automobile accident in August 1997, followed by the death from cancer of his wife Jacqueline in June 1998, a long time it was questionable if the band would ever get back together. Peart finally embarked on a self-imposed healing journey by motorcycle, in which he drove thousands of miles throughout North America and Mexico. The experiences he published in the book Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing Road.

The band returned in 2002 with the surprisingly pretty hard album Vapor Trails back, the first album without keyboards for over 20 years. Then there is also the song Ghost Rider, which describes Peart's motorcycle trip.

As of May 2006, three Canadians were working on new songs. In November 2006, Rush were to produce with co-producer Nick Raskulinecz in the Allaire Studios, NY the new album. It is titled Snakes & Arrows and appeared on April 27, 2007.

Rush live

Rush is considered remarkable live band. For one, the band always appears only in the actual occupation and waives guest musicians as a supplement. As the share of electronic elements since the early eighties, was greatly increased and Geddy Lee should also play bass and keyboards and had to sing, much of the music had to be played back via computer; the technical effort for live performances reached a scale that otherwise only known electronic bands like Depeche Mode at Rush. It is worth noting, however, that Rush still use no follower sampling, but all effects are triggered by the musicians on keyboards, pedals or drum pads.

Vapor Trails was used as a material for the first tour since 1996, including with Erstauftritten in Mexico City and Brazil.

The band was, among others, one of the famous local bands that played at the " SARS Relief Concert " at Downsview Park in Toronto in August 2003, which was attended by over half a million viewers.

Appeared over the years a number of live albums, the first entitled All The World's a Stage in September 1976, Exit Stage Left was published in 1981, the third Show of Hands around 1989; the three- CD album Different Stages followed in 1998, the second three - CD album Rush in Rio, was released in late October 2003. A companion DVD is also available.

In November 2005, the DVD was released R30 -. 30th Anniversary Tour, a shortened eight songs recording of the concert from Frankfurt / Main, 24 September 2004 The DVD finished behind Green Day # 2 on the Billboard charts. The background music of DVD menu this was contributed by Alex Lifeson himself.

Even at their most commercially successful times the band in continental Europe was far less well known than in North America and Britain. Concerts on the European continent, therefore, are rare.

On 17 November 2009, the first "Best Of" live compilation titled Working Men was published, two years later the live album Time Machine 2011: Live in Cleveland followed. The album contains, inter alia, the piece caravan, which was offered in 2010 in advance of the announced new album exclusively for download.
