The Rush University is a Chicago-based privately-run medical university. Attached is a university hospital, Rush University Medical Center.
History
The forerunner of today's University was founded in 1843 as Rush Medical College. The college was named after Benjamin Rush, a physician and one of the founding fathers of the United States. As a teaching hospital served the Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago. 1898, the College of the University of Chicago was connected around 1942 set the pre-clinical training. The Presbyterian Hospital remained as a teaching hospital and merged in 1956 with the St. Luke's Hospital.
1971 Rush Medical College was re-established to meet the increasing demand for doctors in the state to cover. The college merged with St. Luke's Hospital for Rush -Presbyterian -St. Luke's Medical Center. The renaming the current name took place in 2003, the hospital was named Rush University Medical Center.
Colleges
The University is divided into four different colleges:
- The Rush Medical College for the training of doctors
- The College of Nursing for academic training in the caring professions
- College of Health Science for training in medical
- Graduate College for post graduate studies.
