Rusk County (Wisconsin)
Rusk County is a county located in the state of Wisconsin in the United States. In the census in 2010, the County had 14,755 inhabitants and a population density of 6.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Ladysmith, which was named after the wife of a local businessman.
Geography
The County is located in the central northwestern Wisconsin and has an area of 2411 square kilometers, of which 46 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:
History
Rusk County was formed in 1901 when Gates County from parts of Chippewa County. In 1905 it was renamed in Rusk County, according to Jeremiah M. Rusk 1830-1893 ), an American politician and governor of Wisconsin.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Rusk County 15,347 people in 6,095 households. 4,156 families lived in the county. The population density was 6 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 97.69 percent White, 0.51 percent African American, 0.42 percent Native American, 0.26 percent Asian, 0.10 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.35 percent from other races groups; 0.66 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.76 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 6,095 households out of which 28.6 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 55.9 percent were married couples living together, 7.9 percent were single mothers. 31.8 percent were non-families. 27.0 percent of all households and 14.3 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size is 2.97 people.
24.8 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 7.9 percent between 18 and 24, 24.8 percent between 25 and 44, 24.1 percent between 45 and 64, and 18.5 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 98.5 males.
