Russell Hoban
Russell Conwell Hoban ( born February 4, 1925 in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, † 13 December 2011 ) was an American writer.
Life
Russell Hoban attended the Museum School of Industrial Art in Philadelphia and made 1943-1945 military service in the U.S. Army. He then worked as an artist in advertising and wrote since 1958 more than 50 children's books, including classics like The Mouse and His Child ( 1967) and The Frances books ( German Fränzi ) ( mid to late 60s ). In 1968 he published his first long novel The Mouse and His Child, which is also present in German translation ( The mouse father and his son). 1973 's as The Lion of Boaz - Jachin and Jachin - Boaz (Eng. The mapmakers ) Hobans first novel for adults. Other titles that have been translated into German, are Turtle Diary ( Oceanic feelings), small-time ( dt small-time ), The Medusa Frequency ( The Medusenfrequenz ), Angelica 's Grotto ( Angelica's Grotto ) and Amaryllis Night and Day ( Amaryllis day and dream ). The novel has been filmed Oceanic feelings with Ben Kingsley and Glenda Jackson in the lead roles ( screenplay by Harold Pinter ). Since 1999, Russell Hoban is published by Bloomsbury Publishing.
Many of the novels Hobans play in contemporary or future ( stranger ) London. The titles of his novels often included in the original English words or parts of words from the German language ( small-time, pilgrim and stranger ). The fan community, academic and literary world celebrated the 80th birthday of the writer in London in 2005 with a symposium. In English-speaking Russell Hoban is considered one of the most original, daring and imaginative writer ever ". Hoban moved in 1969 to London, where he lived until his death in December 2011.
