Russian Bloc (party)

Russian block (Russian Русский блок / Russki Blok ) is a political party in Ukraine. The party was founded in 2002 represents strictly pro-Russian and partly Pan-Slav positions and seeks a long-term association of Ukraine with Russia. In addition, the Ukrainian nationalism will be refused and advocates a stronger position of the Orthodox Church.

History

The party was founded on 20 June 2002 and was formed from the merger of the parties Russian -Ukrainian community and for the United Rus. In the parliamentary election in 2002, it reached a vote of 0.73 %. In the 2004 presidential election to Viktor Yanukovych supported, the candidate of the Party of Regions.

In the parliamentary elections in 2012 the Russian block reached 0.31% of the vote but failed to reach well above average results in individual constituencies. So a score of 27.8 % was achieved in about one Sevastopol district. The party traditionally gets in the Crimea biggest backers.

Beginning of 2013, many speculated Ukrainian media about an alleged self-dissolution of the Russian block, but this was rejected by the party leader Gennady Basov. In November 2013, the Russian block -organized with the Communist Party of Ukraine an "anti - Maidan" called demonstration, which were directed against the Euromaidan protests
