Rust, Baden-Württemberg
Rust is a municipality in Ortenaukreis in Baden-Württemberg. It lies north of Freiburg im Breisgau and south of Offenburg. To the municipality apart from the village Rust There are no other villages.

Geography
Geographical location
Rust is located in the Rhine valley. To the west are the Vosges Mountains, east of the Black Forest. Rust is adjacent to the nature reserve Taubergiessen. By Rust the River Elz flows. West of Rust is the Rhine, and thus the border with France.
Neighboring communities
In the north, adjacent to the Rust community Grafenhausen, to the east is the municipality of ring home. In the south Rust borders Rheinhausen in Emmendingen and to the west by the unincorporated area Rheinau.
Historical Geography
In the town of Rust are the disposed tube castle towns to which a field name indicates south of Rust, and fir Buck, which was identified by archaeological excavations than high medieval tower hill.
History
The place Rust was mentioned for the first time in 762 in the so called Eddo Testament. The village belonged to the district of Lahr long and came to its dissolution in 1973 the newly formed Ortenaukreis.
In the November 1938 pogrom, the interior of the synagogue in the Klarastraße 14 of SA men was desecrated, but the building itself is not destroyed. Until 1964 it was demolished after fierce public debate. Truth retardant reported the attached to the storehouse of Raiffeisenbank plaque, the church had been destroyed " by the effects of war ."

On 2 February 2014, Kai -Achim Clear sat (SPD ) in the second round of voting with 78 votes more against fellow contestant Marcel Baumann through, and thus takes over on April 2, 2014, the mayor of the incumbent mayor since 1990 Günter Gorecky (SPD ).
Coat of arms
Blazon: In split- front plate in blue, an increasing, left inverted silver fish, red back in a golden plow. The coat of arms (see above) indicated by the fish and the plow back to the two professions fishermen and farmers, who formerly dominated village life.

Structures
Balthasar Castle
In the town center of Rust is the built in 1442 Balthasar Castle, which was once inhabited by the noble family of Böcklin Böcklinsau. It can be visited at Europa-Park. Today, the castle is one of the restaurants in the theme parks.
Balzare - castle
This building is brought into connection with the noble family of Böcklin Böcklinsau. The manor house dates from the early Renaissance and was probably built in 1598. As the building is still inhabited, it can only be viewed from the outside. The beautiful ornamentation in the timber stands in contrast to the relatively simple construction. The castle is located in the Knight Street, near the church.
Church
The Parish Church of Peter in Chains ( St. Peter in Chains ) is the only parish church in Rust. It is dedicated to one of the few churches within the fisherman saint Peter. The Rectory is located in the immediate vicinity.
The nave was built and inaugurated in 1728. According to the plans of the architect Peter Thumb 1731 tower and choir were built and inaugurated in 1737. 1888 the nave was extended and cultivated the sacristy. The church was then extended to the two aisles 1906-1907. For renovation work from 1952 to 1954 the church was " turned around". That is, the altar was relocated from the eastern side to the western side of the nave. In the 1990s there was a fire in the sacristy. The fire smoke in particular the ceiling paintings were affected. The images are restored today, but through the smoke still very dark.
Synagogue
In Rust there used to be a synagogue. It was built by the Israelite town of Rust by 1852, and inaugurated in 1857. In the Kristallnacht 1938, the synagogue was desecrated, vandalized and damaged. 1964, the church was demolished, with the approval of the Upper Council of the Israelites in Karlsruhe.
Since 1999 ( Knight Street ) is located on the former site of the synagogue, a memorial. As part of it contains the three former arches of the portals. They bear the inscription: "Guard your feet when you go to the house of God. He is close to hear. "
Old Town Hall
The " Old Town Hall " is how one can derive from the name easily, the former town hall of the municipality. It was originally built from 1844 to 1845 and 1892 expanded by a bell and clock tower. In 1989 the building was torn down and rebuilt. Thus, the Old Town Hall is younger than the present new town hall. Today, the ground floor a bank and an upstairs unused as citizens dorm room.

Since 2002, Rust has a motorway exit (57b ) on the Autobahn 5 ( Hattenbacher Triangle Weil am Rhein).
The village is connected with bus lines with Lahr / Schwarzwald, Ettenheim, ring home, Orschweier and Herbolzheim and belongs to the Tarifverbund Ortenau to.
Established businesses
The community is home to the Europa Park Rust. With currently 4.5 million visitors per year and more than 100 attractions and shows it is the largest theme park in Germany and the largest seasonal theme park in the world. Directly employed Europa-Park up to 3000 employees, 8000 jobs indirectly (especially in the region) are backed up.
Education
In Rust, there are the basic and Werkrealschule Rust / Grafenhausen. All secondary schools are available in the surrounding towns.
