Rusty Smith

Rusty Smith ( born August 27, 1979 in Sunset Beach, California) is an American short track runner.

Rusty Smith was named dust after the baseball star Rusty and began initially in 1992 with his mother as figure skating, changed shortly thereafter, however, the short track speed skating. He belongs since 1995 to the U.S. National Team and trained in Colorado Springs. He was first trained by Susan Ellis and Wilma Boomstra and currently by Li Yan. It starts on the routes of 500 to 5000 meters. Three times, in 1998, 2002 and 2006 he took part in the Olympic Winter Games. In 2002 he won in Salt Lake City behind Marc Gagnon and Jonathan Guilmette bronze medal on the 500 - meter track.

1998 Smith was the first time U.S. all-around champion, 2000 on the 3000 - meter course. At the Goodwill Games in 2000, he was third on the 500 -meter distance. The biggest success was winning the gold medal at the 2001 World Championships in Calgary over 5000 meters with the team in U.S. record time. In the all-around World Cup 2001 he was eighth. In 2002, he won the bronze medal over 1500 meters at the World Single Distances Championships and was fifth in the all-around world championships.
