Ruta chalepensis

Fringed rue ( Ruta chalepensis )

The Fringed rue ( Ruta chalepensis ) is a species of the genus of the diamonds ( Ruta ) in the rue family ( Rutaceae ).

Features

The perennial plant with woody base is bare and aromatic fragrant. It reaches heights of growth from 20 to 60 cm.

The alternate arranged leaves are bipinnate with oblong- ovate, obtuse segments.

The loosely paniculate inflorescences are drüsenlos. The heart-shaped, stalk comprehensive bracts of the flowers are wider than the respective stalk section in this species. Most flowers are cruciform. Often the central flower is fünfzählig and therefore deviates from the construction of the other flowers. The four (or five ) sepals are ovate. The four (or five ) not fused petals are on the edge coarse tooth-like fringed ( Trivialname! ) and yellow ( green). The flower has eight (or ten) stamens.

The flowering period extends from April to July.

Occurrence

The Fringed diamond is throughout the Mediterranean, spreading from the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, Madeira and the Azores in the west to the Arabian Peninsula to the east. The locations preferred Garigues, rock corridors, but also path sides are populated.
