Rutali

Rutali is a commune with 359 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Haute- Corse on the island of Corsica.

Geography

Rutali located in the northeast of the island of Corsica in the Nebbio to an average height of 593 meters above sea level on a plateau in the forest of Galghete about 8 kilometers from the coast of the Ligurian Sea and 22 kilometers southwest of Bastia, the seat of the Prefecture of Haute- Corse. The village is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Valle Calle, Murato and Vignale. The municipality has an area of ​​17.11 square kilometers. The local thoroughfare is the department of road D305.

History

Since the end of the 11th century Corsica was a fief of the Republic of Pisa. In the 12th century, the first Seigneur of Rutali came on behalf of Pisa Volterra in Tuscany. They managed the land between the rivers Bevinco and Figareto to Lake Biguglia. The name of the noble family was in the 17th century Rutali di Rutali Nebio.

The village Rutali was still only 1254 documented in the Cartulary of the diocese Nebbio. From 1447 to 1769 Corsica was a colony of the Republic of Genoa. Genoa relied several times on the help of France. In 1565 there were Corsican freedom fighter in Rutali, who were under the command of Sampiero Corso ( 1497-1567 ). The commander of the Genoese sent two companies from Saint- Florent to burn down Rutali. The soldiers abused the pastor of the village and made prisoners who were shipped to Genoa. In the 18th century, the Corsican resistance movement chose to Pascal Paoli in 1736 their own king. From the rebellion Rutali was again affected. Not far from the chapel Santa Chjara there is a memorial for the victims of the crash of a civil defense helicopter in 2009, in which five people died.

The Chapel of Santa Chjara was first mentioned in 1658. It is northwest of the village in the forest of Galghete at an altitude of 800 meters above the sea level.
