Ruth Beitia

Ruth Beitia Vila ( born April 1, 1979 in Santander) is a Spanish athlete who is one of the world's best high jumpers. She was European Champion in 2012 and 2013 European Indoor champion.

Career

Ruth Beitia began with ten years with the high jump, until 1996 it rose each year by at least five inches from 1.29m in 1989 to 1.85m in 1996. 1998, it submitted with 1.89 m her first Spanish record on they improved with eight record jumps to 2007 to 2.02 m. In 1996 she participated in the Junior World Championships, but different in the qualifier. After the ninth place in the European Junior Championships in 1997 she finished eighth at the Junior World Championships in 1998. In 2001, she reached her first -place finish at the World Indoor Championships. In the outdoor season 2001 she won with 1.87 m in the U23 European Championships.

Since Ruth Beitia in Madrid won the silver medal behind Russia's Anna Tschitscherowa at the European Indoor Championships in 2005, she missed until 2012, only twice a grand finale. At the outdoor World Championships in 2005 and 2011 but won in 2005 with 1.95 m at the Mediterranean Games in Almeria. Since 2006 Beitia always finished the season highlight in the hall a place among the top six jumpers and won six medals, outdoors was the fifth place at the 2009 World Championships her best finish until 2012 won the European Championship in Helsinki. At the Olympic Games in London shortly thereafter, she finished fourth. In March 2013, it won the gold medal in the high jump at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Beitia was Spanish champion outdoors in 2003 and from 2006 to 2011, in the hall, she won ten league titles until 2012. At a height of 1.92 m her competition weight is 71 kg. Her sister was the Immaculate Beitia triple jumper with a best jump of 13.43 meters.
